AIANY 2015 HERITAGE BALL AWARDS - ADAM WEINBERG

Video Credit: Arbuckle Industries

This is one of our four videos in our annual honoree series for the AIANY Heritage Ball. This video honors Adam Weinberg, director of the Whitney Museum, for his exemplary work relocating the building to the Meatpacking Distrcit from the Upper East Side. The $450 million, nine-story building was nearly a decade in the making. It now sits as a bookend at the southernmost part of the High Line, right on the Hudson River. Renovated and expanded museums often go over-budget, have design flaws, and don't suit the art inside them. But when the new Whitney opened to the public on May 1, on-budget and on-time, it was widely celebrated as a unique achievement and a wonderful addition to the neighborhood, as well as New York's cultural history as a whole.

The film features world-renowned architect Renzo Piano, who has designed some of the world's greatest art environments. We actually had the pleasure recently to travel to Fort Worth, TX to document the beautiful Kimbell Art Museum, also designed by Piano.
