ARBUCKLE TECHNIQUES: DOLLY & SLIDER SHOTS
Dollies and sliders are key tools in our cinematography arsenal. They let us add smooth motion to shots that otherwise would be limited by simple pans or tilts on a tripod. They give our slow, wide shots an extended range of motion. Our motorized slider captures amazing timelapses. You can even use them in interviews. Stick your B- or C-camera on a slider to shake up those still interview shots! Check out a few examples below. Video Credit: Arbuckle Industries #ArbuckleTechni

ARBUCKLE'S NEW ARCHITECTURE REEL
Video Credit: Arbuckle Industries Thanks to new clients, diverse projects and state-of-the-art camera gear, we've had a lot of opportunities over the past year to push the boundaries of architectural videography. 41 COOPER SQUARE The folks at Coopr Union asked us to create a "virtual tour" for their new building in the East Village. The LEED-Platinum Certified, nine-story building was designed by Thom Mayne, principal of Morphosis. It was a filmmaker's dream to explore all th

ARBUCKLE'S NEW PRODUCTION REEL
Video Credit: Arbuckle Industries It's that time of year again... spring cleaning! It's been a big year for Arbuckle Industries. New projects and clients, expanded services and gear. We went through the archives to pick out some cinematic gems to add to our main production reel. Here's a little background on what we've been up to. DAGNE DOVER Our first foray into the fashion world was a big success. We're very proud of our film promoting Dagne Dover's stylish handbags. Shot e
BEAUTIFUL BOKEH FOR EVERYONE
Video Credit: Stern Mathieu Sometimes you have to go back in time and revisit the classics, like when you dig through your parents' dusty records to find that old Simon and Garfunkel album. Though not super practical for our professional needs (wide, clean, precise shots), we do still appreciate beautiful cinematography of all kinds. Check out what happens when you attach this vintage Soviet lens to a tilt shift adapter. Astonishing results! Beautiful bokeh! And best of all,

IT'S A BIRD! IT'S A PLANE! IT'S A... GOPRO?
Video Credit: GoPro Earlier this year, GoPro announced plans to release a quadcopter in the first half of 2016. Here's a sneak peek that was captured with a developmental prototype. No post-production stabilization was implemented, and boy were we impressed! This could be a nice alternative to the popular DJI drones, which start around $500 and go into the thousands. If GoPro's drone is as affordable as their cameras, thousands of filmmakers may soon be able to capture beauti

photo by Ari Burling Every year, the University of Minnesota’s School of Architecture, College of Design, puts on a week long event called “Catalyst.” This event brings new ideas and conversations to the table by inviting professionals in the field of architecture and design to give public lectures and conduct week-long courses with first and second year graduate architecture students. This year, Arbuckle’s own Ian Harris had the opportunity to speak while teaching a class

CHOOSING THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT
Is a DSLR good enough? Should I rent those lights? What happens if they ask for 4K?! Everybody goes through the same process when trying to pick the right gear. The good news is, there has never been a better time for video production. There are more products, price-points, and equipment options than ever-- but this can also produce a lot of stress and confusion, because there’s so much crap to choose from! Start by asking yourself these questions: What can we feasibly accomp
